One of his most popular versions of the Joker character is the one that appeared in the 2011 Batman series, which was written by Scott Snyder and published by DC Comics.

In this version, the Joker is a terrifying and sadistic character, willing to do anything to wreak havoc in Gotham City. His appearance is a mix of classic and modern, with pale, smooth skin, a permanent smile tattooed on his face, and a traditional clown outfit. Although he is known for his macabre sense of humor, Capullo also casts the Joker as a dangerously intelligent and manipulative figure.

For this project, I wanted to refer to that iconic cover of the “Batman: The Death of the Family” Comic, where a Joker, with his face completely cut off, dances on the blood of an apparently dead Batman, holding his cape.

The first step of this project consisted of making a Moodboard of what we wanted to represent with this character. References to the wardrobe, the character, the anatomy and his visual style were collected.

Afterwards, it was moved to the stage of 3D modeling of the character using 3D sculpting techniques. For this, the capabilities of ZBrush and Blender were used. For the clothing, the Marvelous Designer software was used.

Subsequently, the retopology process was carried out in Blender. From this step, the UV Mapping was created and transferred to Substance Painter to carry out its texturing.

This was one of the most important steps, since the aim was to transfer a lot of realism and horror in this macabre version of the character.

Once the model was finished and textured, Blender was used to create a basic Rig of the character. With this, the character was posed and Batman’s cape was added using Blender’s cloth simulations.

Eventually, it was ported to Unity Engine and the scene compositing was done on this software. Added lighting and added particles in the scene, as well as color correction, for the final rendering.
